This little box

20130515-072504.jpg

When me and my partner first going out (nearly 8 years ago) and I visited his mothers house for the first time. I immediately fell in love with a set of boxes she had in her room. Apparently is was a set of 3 but she only had 2 left they were beautiful carved boxes with a gold clasp lock on the front.

She had a big one and a baby one and last night she brought one round and said I could have it. Yay!

I think that means Andrew has to marry me now :)

Do you have a little treasure box, I would love to see it. Tweet it to #makingahousehome or write in the comments box and tell me about it.

Our first house plant

20130416-202916.jpg

Yesterday after dropping my poorly dad to the hospital I fancied a little trip to home base :) ma and baby J nipped in quickly and I knew what I was going to get. My long awaited areca palm plant :)

We asked a man if he could tell me where they are and he took me to the house plants. I noticed it straight away with its big gorgeous leaves and just as I was about to spend £20 fortune I noticed its much taller brother that needed a bit of love in the sale for a steal at £10!! Knowing my love for google I knew the sale one it was to be and now it’s currently sitting in my dining room getting kisses from my humidifier.

Isn’t it beautiful! Now to keep it alive :)

DIY cat bed

20130403-071557.jpg

This was lots of fun to make with the boys, we simply chopped up and sellotaped an old nappy box and a medium piece of cardboard for the roof and chimney :)

To decorate you could paint or wallpaper it, we didn’t we just left it au natural :) hope you like it.

2 little birdies

20130401-205653.jpg

When the lovely lady over the road asked me if I was interest in any cups/glasses as she was having a clear out, I of course said I would be happy to have a nosey and low and behold when I went in on her worktop along with a lovely china set of fruity mugs that went to our friend were these absolute beauts. How pretty :)

It’s always fun when you get pretty gifts! Thank you.

Solar Lighting Kit

The Cougar solar lighting kit

These beautiful little lights look great lighting up your garden, tent, home or shed. The small LED lights provide a surprising amount of light for up to 11 hours per charge. The powerful battery can be charged via sunlight or AC adapter. The pack also comes with a USB port to charge just about any gadget, including mobiles, iPads and GPS devices.

How cute are these! I’d love them in our little garden to add some pretty and some techy into it :D Very cool. And you’ll save on electricity as it’s run by the sun.

Bench revamp

Yesterday the sun was out again! Which meant more fun organising the garden! We filled my little car boot with rubbish and took it all they’d the tip, that made such space. I then popped in to a wallpaper shop in the hope they would have some garden paint. They didn’t! So I popped into home base and ended up with a paint called Garden shades that cost £23!! I figured it would be worth it though as we had brought our bench second hand last year for £25 and it needed some TLC especially with it being attacked by the weather this winter!

Here are some process photos, I have to say I am really pleased with how it looks now, it has been given such a new lease of life, the garden shades means that water now doesn’t soak so easily into the wood so hopefully this bench will last us many years to come.

Once the bench had been painted with a few coats I had picked up the painting bug, so I ended up doing our shed and back door too :D

What do you think to my revamped bench :) doesn’t it just look so much prettier :D

Garden Beginnings

I am continuing with my purging spree. Today was the garden. I have had an old bed and left over rabbit hutch out there since forever and today was the day. I smashed, ripped and sawed my way through it and although it’s not ‘spotless’ but it is getting there!! Cannot wait to continue with it tomorrow and then start the boys with there prettifying the garden with some do it yourself crafts. Here’s our to be continued garden….

It’s a start

Remember how I said I was going to start purging my house and making it into a more liveable, organised and just all round lovely space? Well it has begun! Yesterday I decided to tackle the boys room, not only by tidying but I gave the whole thing a new look, I moved beds and drawers. I put their bookcase on top of there drawers (which is screwed to the wall) Then it was time for the goodstuff! Something that has been massively irritating me about the boys room was the books. They just had some many some of them from when Ky was baby that were just a sad mess and they just needed sorting. After seeing Merry from Patch of Puddles post. I was inspired, I though you know what Hannah! We’re going to sort this (I realise I am talking about myself in third person and I am okay with it) And that is what I did. I sorted it 2 bags of books later and their bookcase is presentable and useable! yay! The boys room is lovely now.. but the toys and clothes still need sorting, maybe another day ey! :)

27/02/2013

Today I have spent most of the day searching through the internet in awe of other people’s beautiful homes.  The way they have decorated and accessorised and just the beauty of the decor.

I realised more so that even though my house is a rented my landlord allows up to decorate and we need a re-vamp! I think the first thing I need to do it completely purge each room. We just have so many things! The boys have so many toys mainly because when he was younger we thought quantity was better than quality! We absolutely know how wrong we were and are now trying to remove some of the hideous thiings that were purchased. I think that’s what I shall do after baby J’s swimming lesson tomorrow! Get a load of black bags and fill them for the charity shop.

Then I am going to give it all a good clean and bleach and just basically a bit of love :) I am feeling lost in it at the moment, I need to set targets and get organised. I need more containers, a cork board and to use my white board more.

There is just so much I need to do. I think tomorrow I may blog a to-do list :)
